Job Description

Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices seeks a Human Factors Engineering co-op student for summer 2027 in Raritan, NJ. The role involves conducting user research, developing usability specifications, and iteratively testing medical device interfaces to improve patient outcomes through user-centered design.

Responsibilities

• Support planning, conduct, and reporting of user research activities including ethnography, focus groups, formative and summative usability tests
• Consolidate user feedback into design insights and actionable recommendations for product teams
• Perform root cause analysis for use-related problems identified during hands-on usability testing
• Contribute to human factors documentation including test plans, reports, risk analyses, and regulatory compliance materials
• Author study documentation such as informed consent forms, recruitment screeners, moderator guides, and use error checklists

Requirements

• Minimum 3.0 GPA with demonstrated leadership or community service involvement
• Authorized to work in United States without sponsorship
• Available for at least 4-month co-op rotation (May–August 2027)
• Understanding of research process and design project experience or user-centered research preferred
• Knowledge of human factors principles, task analysis, risk analysis, human perception, cognition, anthropometrics, and biomechanics
• Familiarity with FDA, ISO, AAMI, and medical device usability standards highly preferred
